WHAT IS IT?
The Sturrier Environment Challenge is a student led initiative to reduce our building’s Eco-Footprint. This environmental based program is a competition between Currier Hall floors and Stanley Hall floors. Each floor will be trying to accumulate points (by attending events, completing energy room audits, making environment pledges, recycling, etc.) to earn rewards and recognition for their floor.
Themes:
Each month will have a targeted theme: September is Energy, October is Recycling, and November is Heat & Water.
Objectives:
Increasing students’ awareness of green issues
Creating student advocacy of green issues in Currier/Stanley Hall
Providing students with resources and information to empower them to make a difference
Lowering Currier/Stanley Hall’s Eco-Footprint.
PARTICIPATE IN THE CHALLENGE !
As a resident of Currier or Stanley Hall you are officially apart of the Sturrier Environment Challenge. What you can do is participate in all of the fun programs to earn points for your floor and yourself. The points provide you and your floor chances to win great prizes, and do your part to save the earth at the same time! Look for these great programs in September:
Green Crib Certified : Pick up a self-audit room energy sheet from your RA. After you make your energy assessment turn it back into your RA who will give you a pledge card. Make a pledge to Reduce your Energy Usage. By making a pledge you have officially become GREEN CRIB CERTIFIED and receive points!
Green Party- Sept 6th at 8pm in the Currier MPR: Let’s kick off the year right with a PARTY! Everyone is invited. There will be music, organic food tasting, recyclables drop-off stations, prizes, games, energy saving information, and so much more! Also, make sure to sign-in for points & wear GREEN!
Do it in the DARK! - Sept. 20th at 8pm in the Currier MPR: Who says things aren’t more fun in the dark? Lights account for 16% of our energy usage, so this is a fun way to reduce the juice! Take the pledge to not turn on your lights for a whole week starting Sept.13th – Sept. 20th! Then we will throw you a “Do it in the DARK” Bash. This is a Glow-in-the-Dark Dance Party! There is no need to go downtown on this night. We will bring the party to you! Food and refreshments will be provided along with some of the hottest music. Bring your friends and wear BLACK!
GET INVOLVED !
Join the residential hall environment student organization A.K.A. “The Green Team.” This is a new organization that will be helping run the Sturrier Environment Challenge. Being apart of the organization is a great way to build leadership skills, be an environment advocator, meet other students who care about the environment, and help put on some awesome programs. The first meeting is August 29 th at 8:00pm in the Currier Green Room.
Sign-up to be a volunteer at the events put on by the Sturrier Environment Challenge. Help is always needed. So if you can’t make the commitment to join the student organization, then make the commitment to help out when you can. By being on the volunteer list means you will get emails to ask if you are available to help out with upcoming events. You are not obligated to volunteer just because you are on the list.
Support the Challenge by participating in the programs! Do your part to help the environment by reducing your energy usage, and have fun while doing it!
