FEATURED WORKSHOP
Women of Wind Energy (WOWE)

Interested in Women of Wind Energy? Join in the discussion at this workshop for promoting women in this area of renewable energy. WOWE is a group of individuals who support and encourage the participation of professional women in the wind energy industry by providing networking opportunities and student sponsorships. Women of Wind Energy is housed at Windustry, a non-profit organization working to increase wind energy opportunities for rural landowners and communities

The idea to start a networking and scholarship organization for women in the wind industry started with just a few women. "We got better organized," said Sarah Johnson, program analyst for Windustry and a steering committee member of WOWE. "There is so much enthusiasm for the idea," she said.
The group aims to support and assist the women who are working for non-profits — in research and for companies involved in wind power development — and encourage more women to join the male-dominated industry. "The original members established the group after growing tired of being among just a few women in the room at events," Johnson said.

Organizers said there are considerably more women in the field than just seven years ago. The growing interest in the group may indicate that number is on the rise — last year the luncheon attracted 80 people.
