Jeff Barrie is a documentary filmaker, grassroots organizer, and activist. His latest accomplishment and documentary, “Kilowatt Ours, A Plan to Re-Energize America” presents conservation, efficiency and renewable power alternatives. Produced on a $20,000 budget, this 65-minute documentary reveals the underreported side effects resulting from America’s voracious appetite for coal-generated electricity. “Kilowatt Ours” follows filmmaker Jeff Barrie on his 18-month journey across the southeast United States, where more than six tons of coal are burned to generate electricity for the average home annually. Barrie takes viewers from our light switches at home to the sources of our energy, examining social and environmental consequences such as global warming, mountain top removal, air pollution, childhood asthma and mercury contamination.   Read More...
   
Mayor Frank Cownie Something very special is emerging within the nation’s heartland. One by one, communities are stepping up, taking a stand on conserving energy and protecting the environment. In Iowa’s capital city of Des Moines, with a metro population of a half million, Mayor Franklin Cownie has inspired and energized his community to work together on a plan for conservation and environmental protection. Philippe Cousteau is the son of Jan and Philippe Cousteau Sr., and the grandson of Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau. He is president of EarthEcho International, a non-profit organization he co-founded with his sister Alexandra in memory of their father. EarthEcho seeks to inspire actions that sustain and enhance our water planet by leveraging traditional and emerging media platforms to offer compelling storytelling with a modern pop sensibility. To that end, Philippe is currently producing a series of radio adventures for National Public Radio’s “Living on Earth” and is involved in the creation of an interactive, simulated edutainment game. Philippe was recently named chief ocean correspondent for Discovery’s Animal Planet Channel. He has been featured in several television and radio programs across the country and has produced, directed, and written public service announcements for cable televis ion. He has authored articles for Sport Diver Magazine US, National Geographic Magazine, and Caribbean Adventure, and has lectured at such institutions as The United Nations, Harvard University, and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He serves on numerous Boards of Directors, and is a member of the Smithsonian Institution’s Ocean Science Initiative Council. Ted Glick is the Coordinator of U.S. Climate Emergency Council. He was a co-founder in early 2004 of the Climate Crisis Coalition and in 2005 coordinated the “USA Join the World” campaign leading up to December 3rd actions in Montreal and around the United States during the United Nations Climate Change conference. He has been active in the progressive social change movement since 1968, including involvement in the Vietnam War draft resistance movement, as co-founder and coordinator of the National Campaign to Impeach Nixon, as a community organizer in Brooklyn, N.Y. and northern N.J. and as national coordinator of the Independent Progressive Politics Network. John Heinen currently serves as the Environmental, Health & Safety Director for a foundry in southwest Wisconsin. In recent years, his mission has taken John in the direction of discovering converging catastrophes, leading to his involvement with Peak Oil, Climate Change, and the study of Ancient Civilizations. Hence, his affiliation with the Post Carbon Institute, the Midwest Renewable Energy Association, 'The Community Solution' (a program of Community Service, Inc.), the Association for the Study of Peak Oil & GAS - USA (ASPO-USA), Peak Oil News & Message Boards, Participate.net, Christine Todd Whitman’s “My Party Too”, and the Peak Oil forum he created for Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich.   Read More...
   
Chad Pregracke,   Founder & President of Living Lands & Waters, is living, breathing proof that one person can make a difference. As the founder of America’s only “industrial strength” river clean-up organization, Chad tells a compelling and funny story about growing up on the Mississippi river and how his river experiences led to his unique vision to clean up the river. Living Lands & Waters is an environmental organization based in East Moline, Illinois. Chad has orgranized thousands of volunteers to help with the community cleanups, Riverbottom Forest Restoration and Adopt-a-Mississippi River Mile programs.   Read More...
